| For people served by MDA, there are many ways to connect with others who are facing similar challenges posed by ALS.
Whether chatting by phone, face-to-face, or via the Internet, thousands of people have found friendship, empathy and problem solving by linking up with others through MDA’s support systems.
One thing is for sure: Finding such support doesn’t mean you’ll find a room full of tears and sob stories. Sharing emotions is a priority, but so is exchanging ideas, victories and inspiration for living with ALS. In fact, many participants find they receive the biggest boost by giving of themselves and sharing their tips for making life easier.

It’s MDA’s goal to provide opportunities to give and receive support to as many people as possible. MDA offers support groups nationwide to assist individuals and their families in coping with the special problems imposed by ALS. Support groups provide valuable emotional support and practical help.
In addition to support groups, MDA is proud to offer myMDA™, an online community where individuals can establish friendships and provide encouragement to one another. This is a fully-functioning online community site, with profile pages to post photos, message boards for community dialogue on various topics, and many other exciting features. At myMDA™
, you don't just participate in the community, you create it.
Also, educational ALS seminars are conducted in local communities throughout the year for health professionals and those served by MDA’s ALS Division.
